My Brother is diabetic and he is now advised to start insulatard 6 units every night and a table Azukon 80 mg morning and evening. What are the side effects of taking insulin for longer term? Is it going to cause more weight, obesity etc? Which is better? Taking insulin or taking tablets for the diabetes management. Mr. lybrate-user, Insulin is the best treatment for diabetes because diabetes occurs due to insulin deficiency or resistance to its action. Insulin absolutely safe fro use in length of time. Slight weight increase may occur. T2 diabete patients invariably end up using insulin in the course of the disease. Thanks.
