Dear doctors, my wife delivered a sweet "full term" baby girl on 2nd April 2017. She weighed 2850 gms at birth. I wish to know below queries, request you to please post your valuable comments- 1. The doctor has suggested my wife to consume Orofer xt for 3 months and Shelcal HD for eight months. Is it really required? She took these pills throughout her pregnancy as well. 2. My baby passes lot of gases. This is not an issue for us but she cries a lot when she pass gas else she plays and smiles a lot. What can we do to avoid gases of baby? 3. Breast feeding is done properly and baby also drinks mother's milk properly, what should mother focus on consuming more and till how many days? Any comments mentioned serially are highly appreciated, thank you in advance.

Hello. I am glad you are so much concern about your wife and baby. For your wife I think she should continue those medicines to avoid deficiencies later on. As your wife need more nutrition to breast feed to. I would like to add here what she should eat. Drink milk with dry fruits, add jeera and garlic in food. Don't indulge in over eating instead eat healthy food. For your baby always burp her after ever feed. Give colic aid drops. Give little tummy time.

1.Your wife must continue iron and calcium thru the period of lactation also it ensures the complete delivery of these essential nutrients in the mother's milk. 2.All babies pass a lot of gas. Gas is the byproduct of digestion. You must not worry about this. Turning the baby to her side, or putting her on her tummy while playing with her, ensures easy passage of gas. 3. The mother should take a good nourishing diet and plenty of oral fluids to ensure sufficient milk. If the baby is passing urine 6-7 times per day, the milk intake is sufficient.
