I am diabetic person. Dr. has asked me to use insulin which started 2 days back. However I did not know much about storage of insulin pen. I used for the first time and then stored it in freezer. Then I come to know through internet that once stored in freezer insulin breaks down and become ineffective. Is it true? Because I also experience now that my blood sugar spiked even after using insulin. Also pls tell me the procedure of storing insulin pen? Can I store the pen in room temperature after using for the very first time. Pls tell me in detail. Thank you.

Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. Yes Insulin should not be stored in freezer. If it solidifies, it looses its efficacy completely. It should be stored in refrigerator in the door side. Temperature should be 15 to 25 degrees C. Before injection it should be kept out, allowed to come to room temperature and then to be injected. Do Not Keep In Freezer. Thanks.
