Hi I am 21. Since past couple of days am having pain in my upper back left shoulder and left arm. Also felt numbness in the arm and some tingling sensation my orthopedic said my nerve has been compressed and I have spasm. He has given me painkillers. I workout regularly at gym lift weights but I am very careful I just wanted to know is it major injury or just a spasm leading yo the pain. I am having constant pain but the pain is not soo much which refrains me from doing my normal work.

Such pain can occur due to muscle strain during workout. Tingling and numbness is not a good sign. Cervical spine pathology like prolapsed disc can cause tingling, numbness and weakness of hands. If you have all 3 of them , get MRI scan of cervical spine done.Simple spasm is relieved with painkillers and muscle relaxants followed by exercise. Avoid work out at gym till diagnois is done.
