Hello doctor, I am diabetic for the last 12 years. I am 63 years old. My recent sugar levels are FBG 120 mg PPBG 140. HBA1c is 6.2. I am taking daily one table glyciphage 500 mg before breakfast, one tablet before lunch and one tablet before dinner which is prescribed by my doctor. In addition, I am also taking Telvas 40 mg for BP and one tablet of Calchek-5 and one vitamin tablet. Daily I will go for walking for 40 minutes. Though I am fond of sweets I am always remember I am diabetic. Kindly advise me what precautions I have to take.

Hi, The precautions to be followed are as follows: - Avoid all whites like rice, sugar, maida, etc. - Eat in small quantities 4-5 servings per day. - Walk daily for 1 hour. - Avoid intake of oil fried food and sweets. - Take medicines prescribed by the doctor regularly. - Visit your doctor regularly for follow up check-ups. - Get your sugar levels checked once in a month and try to keep it under control. - Get rid of mental tensions and worries. - Be active always and avoid sedentary life style. - Perform yoga and meditation to keep your mind calm. - Consume lot of fiber in your diet which lowers your cholesterol levels.
