What is the symptoms of mental illness. My 32 year old sister-in-law's mood is continuously changing sometimes she is happy n sometime she is sad without any reason during this she does not talk to anyone.

Dear lybrate-user, Mental illnesses are of different types. Each one has different symptomatology. Your sister-in-law's changing moods and withdrawn behaviour (not talking to anyone) are symptoms of mental illness. That does not mean, that your sister-in-law is mentally ill. There are some more criterias and tests that need to be done, before we diagnose. Therefore, please take her to a psychiatrist and get her diagnosed.
