Dear Lybrate User, Tooth sensitivity does not always automatically call for a Root Canal Treatment. If it's just a minor sensitivity in response to sweet, cold and sour, a normal Glass Ionomer Cement/Composite Filling should do good. If there is an exaggerated response on taking something hot, then the tooth could go in for a Root Canal Treatment. An X-Ray of the tooth and a test called Electric Pulp Testing, will help the dentist arrive at the correct diagnosis. Get yourself examined by an Endodontist (Root Canal Specialist) or an experienced General Dentist. Meanwhile use any of the anti-sensitivity toothpastes available over-the-counter in the market place. Good Luck!Â

Dear Lybrate user, dental decay is a progressive disease that does not stop until treated. The main treatment options are filling, root canal treatment or extraction (removal) of the tooth depending upon the extent of decay. No medication in the world can repair or arrest dental decay. If your dentist has suggested root canal treatment, please go for it otherwise you might lose your teeth. Decaying teeth are also the hub of bacterial infection in the mouth, they may cause foul odor too. Don't neglect and pursue treatment. Â

What you mean by sensitivity could be different to what it means in dentist language. If your dentist suggested RCT .then its not just sensitivity but sensitive tooth due to decay. If thats the case no medication will help as the core of the tooth needs treatmemt and the only option is a root canal treatment. If there is absolutely no Decay .then fillings and medications for sensitivity can be tried with good success. Â
