Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. Presence of enlarged lymph nodes does not mean there is cancer. However, smoking even one cigarette is bad. My suggestion is just quit from smoking. If the glands are causing pain and swelling then consult a doctor near by. Most common cancer due to smoking is affecting the lungs. It can spread to lymph nodes. So if you have too much of doubt, please consult a surgeon and get things clarified. But quit smoking. Thanks.

Smokers are prone for upper airway and chest infection, which can lead to swelling of the lymph nodes. I suggest you cut down or consider quitting smoking, ideally with professional help and / or nicotine substitution therapy. Research suggest that the chances of successfully quitting smoking is high with help and professional input and low without. Also it would be important to see an EBT specialist for further evaluation and examination. In the mean time steam inhalation and hot water eagle may ease of the inflammation / infection the throat.
