Redoing a crown 1 View Few days back I went for a zirconium crown for the front tooth as one of it got fractured. But as d fit is n look is not perfect they are redoing it. Crown was removed and temporary crown was given which is not fixed using cement. Now the colour of the trimmed tooth will change if a temporary cap is not fixed using cement? Can I leave the temporary cap which is not fixed using cement for two days? The temporary crown is falling off even now then when its being touched by the tongue 1 View.

In my opinion, you should not wear the temporary crown, and donot worry ,nothing will happen to the colour of the tooth.

You can leave it for number of days if you don't have sensitivity after removing the temporary crown. If you have sensitivity. In some cases very severe) you can do one of these 1) you can avoid very hot or very cold food stuffs. 2) temporary crown is given for reasons to protect anatomy of prepared tooth and strengthen remaining tooth. So if possible, get it cemented with any dentist. It will be free of cost at the same dentist's place and 50 to 100 INR at different dentist's place in Bangalore. THANK YOU.

Dear Lybrate user, there was no point of giving the temporary crown if your dentist did not want to fix it. It is dangerous as any patient could swallow it accidentally. The dentist has tried to escape his part of the labor by not fixing it as he would have to remove it using specific instruments before placing permanent crown. The cement used for fixing temporary crown cannot change the color of teeth in mere 2-4 days. If your dentist has charged you separately for the temporary crown, you should confront him regarding the same. If the condition of the trimmed tooth is weak and the dentist suspected that repeatedly placing and removing the temporary crown could have harmed it, he should not have given you the crown in the first place and be honest about the actual reason rather than misguiding with a false reason. Remove the crown and keep it aside to avoid the risk of swallowing it or getting embarrassed if it comes off publicly.

You can avoid wearing the temporary as long as sensitivity and esthetic problem is not there. If the cut tooth is sensitive ask your dentist to fix the temporary using a temporary cement. Do not worry about any discoloration.
