I am a 39 year old man. Since many days I am feeling like depression and lonely. 1) Is there any test. Which will suggest if a person really need psychiatrists Treatment. 2) Even if psychiatric treatment is must. I will try to avoid it. Because I heard that. The medicine once started will need to take forever throughout the life. IS IT TRUE. Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

There are depression rating scales to assess the severity. Not all people with depression need to take life long medications, only this who have chronic depression need to. Those with depressive episode especially first and second episode can be treated with a course of medications for few months. All the best.
