Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. Diabetes even when well controlled tends to affect peripheral nerves causing peripheral neuropathy. If the glucose levels are not in control then there can be a fairly severe neuropathy. This causes symptoms like numbness, tingling and pain in legs, feet and even upper limbs. So it is essential to achieve a strict blood glucose control with fasting glucose < 100 mg, PP 150 to 160 mg & HbA1c% <6.8. Otherwise consequences can be bad. There are some drugs used to treat diabetic neuropathy like combination of Methylcobalamine, Lipoleic acid, folic acid, plus for pain and other symptoms control drugs like pragabalin and/or gabapentine are used. But most important is to achieve a strict blood glucose control Thanks.
