Styes are due to blockages of oil glands of the eyelids. Many patients who get repeated styes have disorder of their oil glands. Warm compresses along with lid massage go in a long way in treating this lid disorder. Cleansing your eye with Q-tips on the upper and lower lashes with a dab of Johnson?s Baby Shampoo and warm water is a great way to disinfect the area and keep it clean. Over the counter antibiotic eye ointment like azithromycin or ciprofloxacin is also effective. You can also start a course of capsule doxycycline for a week. Avoid eye make up, touching your eyes constantly as it may be a nidus for infection.
