My TSH level is 7.25.i take thyronorm 50 from last 20 days. I want to know within how many days my TSH level will be normal. When I plan to be conceive. Please reply.

Arhiji, Thanks for the query. To bring down TSH levels to normal it takes at least 6 weeks after starting the treatment with adequate dose of Levothyroxine. When on treatment TSH should be maintained around 3 to 4 mU/L. At that level all the symptoms of hypothyroidism are in check. However, if you want to conceive, then it is essential to maintain TSH level closer to 2 mU/L. Further, during pregnancy TSH should be maintained as follows: 1st Trimester: 0.1 to 2.5 mU/l, 2nd Trimester: 0.2 to 3.0 mU/L & 3rd Trimester: 0.3 to 3.0 mU/l. These levels should be critically adhered to. As lack of thyroxine affects fetal brain development in the first 28 days, later, fetal growth also depends on adequate Thyroxine plus the desired outcome of pregnancy. Thanks.
