I have hypo thyroid ratio 6.5 since 2 years, I diagnosed it after my pregnancy. I take thyrox medicine 50 mg, 4 months back the ratio was 3.3 but still doctor prescribed to take medicine regular for 2-3 months and after that check again but I did not take medicine according to prescription and thyroid goes to 6.5.my question is, is I have to take medicine my life time or can I will be free from that.

lybrate-user ji, Thanks for the query. When one is on treatment for hypothyroidism, with adequate dosage of Thyroxine TSH is usually maintained around 3 to 4 mU/L. At that level all the symptoms are complete check. Therefore, TSH 6.5 mU/L is high. It can cause reappearance of all the symptoms. Treatment has to be for life time. Thanks.
