SIR, this is a different question I Have under bcg therapy afterTURBT for benign tumor. Doctor asked me to go for Cystoscopy under GA instead of LA. What are the benefits of doing CYSTOSCOPY under GA instead of Local anesthesia.

By the way, BCG therapy is for early and superficial cancers of urinary bladder treated by TURBT to prevent recurrence. We don’t need BCG for benign tumors. We do most of the cystoscopies as out Patient procedure under Local Anasthesia if they are just check scopies for follow up of bladder cancer or to rule out bladder involvement in Rectal or cervical cancers. However, sometimes if we plan to do some therapeutic intervention for the patient we can do it at the same time if it is under general anaesthesia. In your case your surgeon may have asked it in GA if he/she is suspecting severe infection or inflammation of bladder due to BCG, which can make the procedure painful under LA. Also, patients are much more comfortable getting the procedure done under GA as there is no pain or discomfort. GA does leave you with some weakness and nausea for a couple hours. You may discuss the same with your surgeon.
