Hi Mr. lybrate-user, As you have been already suggested, if the pain is from Gall stones, then the best and safest will be to remove the Gall Bladder. It's a safe surgery and patients can go home the same or the next day of the operation. If Gall stones are asymptomatic and single, then usually Surgery may not be required. But if pain is not getting relieved with medicines or is happening again please get it removed. Understanding why pain happens will help you take a better decision. Pain happens because stone has started causing problem like swelling/inflammation of Gall Bladder wall or is causing Obstruction of bile drainage out from the Gall Bladder. This if persists can erode through the wall causing Gall Bladder perforation which is bigger. It may also cause jaundice which again may need something other than simple Cholecystectomy. Please don't ignore it or get anxious. If Cholecystectomy is needed, then getting it done will be the right decision, will save you from suffering, time, money and hours lost from work and any further complications. If you still have questions, you can always ask me again.
