i am 25 year old. I got a lump on my index finger last september. I visited a GP who ordered a US and it was found to be a well defined cyst superficial to flexor tendon without calcification suggesting a ganglion cyst. My GP advised me to wait and observe as I had no pain back then. It was growing extremely slowly but has grown larger rapidly over the last 3 months (since I have taken up work that requires longer commute daily and a lot of activity ). Finally I decided to see a surgeon who advised me to get rid of the cyst through surgery which would take approx 45 mins. He also asked me to get a biopsy done after surgery to check the chances of it coming back which has freaked me out. I looked up biopsy on google and have been having anxiety ever since. Another doctor advised me surgery but hasn't mentioned biopsy of the cyst and said it is a relatively simple 15-20 procedure. Help me out.

Dear Ahmed. Thanks for the question. A mucous cyst is a ?uid-?lled sac that occurs on the ?nger joint closest to the nail. The cyst may thin the skin and may cause a groove to form in the nail. Most patients who develop a mucous cyst have wear and tear arthritis (osteoarthritis) of the involved joint. It's possible to diagnose cysts by palpation, ultrasound, X-rays, CT scans, MRI scans, and needle biopsies. Most cysts do not require treatment, however, physicians may use needle aspiration or surgical removal to treat some cysts. There are many specialists, both medical and surgical, who may treat cysts. There is no need to panic. Take care
