Hello Doctor, My father had recently undergone angiogram operation in which 2 stents were placed in two valves. And he came back to home. Doctor advised not to drink much water. Daily 1.5 litre of water including all the liquid items in food is enough. But when I searched in net, everywhere they have mentioned to drink lot of water. Can you please clarify why he told to drink only less amount of water? What will be the reason? Thank you.

Hi lybrate-user, While its usual knowledge that one should drink lots of water, often a person with heart disease can not handle any extra water. I am guessing from the background you mentioned, that your father's heart is compromised in some way (and undergoing treatment for that). In such cases, most of the time, we recommend to limit water intake (sometimes even 1 liter or less per day). Any excess fluid in the body adds undue stress to heart which may not be favorable. Take care.
