Hi, you have to use the blood thinners for life long period. Drink enough amount of water in a day- 8-10 glasses (2 litres). Do take fibre rich foods like whole grain cereals, pulses, fruits and vegetables. Do exercise regularly. Do take probiotics regularly as they promote healthy bacteria in your gut. Both green and black varieties of tea may help reduce "bad" cholesterol (LDL). Having regular cups can also improve artery function. Skip bottled versions and brew it yourself for the biggest benefits. Avoid refined foods and their products like white rice, maida, white bread. Avoid caffiene and alcohol as they make you dehydrated. Avoid frozen and processed foods. Avoid red meat, oily and fat foods. Researchers estimate that cleaning up smoggy air could prevent nearly 8,000 heart failure hospitalisations each year. Breathing it in contributes to atherosclerosis, a hardening of the arteries. Just moving farther from big roadways can reduce your risk. It's better not to lift heavy weights as lifting them will put pressure on your heart and that might have adverse effects on your health. Â

Hello lybrate-user, First thing is to continue your medicines regularly and timely. Start morning or evening walking (this will help you to cop up with your stress levels and control your cholesterol level as well). Secondly, maintain a regular healthy diet. Include fruits and vegetables of all colours, specially carrots, onions, spring onions, tomato, garlic, ginger, coriander, beetroot, yams, taro, cabbage and cauliflower, pumpkin, bitter gourd, bottle gourd. Add all varieties of pulses in your diet, specially those with skin, ie, husked pulses (chilke wali daal). Try to include fish and sea food in your plate everyday. Fish oil is very good in reducing LDL. The sooner you will normalise your LDL and triglyceride level quicker your blood thinners will be taken-off. But it all depends upon your LDL, HDL and triglyceride levels. Now these were what you can have, now moving on to what you can not have. Get rid of red meat, beef and pork. Always choose lean chicken recipes when dining out. Avoid egg yolks, add green vegetables in your diet. Keep your salt, sugar and fat intake in check. Not more not less. It is better to go for ghee rather than butter and/or cheese (fat of ghee gets off quicker than butter and cheese). Atlast but not the least, always smile, choose to chill with family and friends other than smoking and/or drinking alcohol. Avoid lifting weight this may strain your arteries. Lead a healthy happy life and walk proudly with your head-up because the post guidelines after angioplasty is just to maintain regular healthy lifestyle which we (may be) have forgot! Hope this will be helpful to you. Have a nice day! Â

Once you get your risk factors under control, then you can speak with your doctor to reduce or discontinue the medicine. Most importantly, lifestyle changes are crucial after surgery, a combination of regular exercise, proper diet, quit smoking, stress management will be helpful. For lifting weight and doing heavy cardio exercises you need to speak with your doctor if a post angioplasty stress test is appropriate. Â

Hi Lybrate patient, you should take your blood thinners and other medicines regularly and on time. In terms of diet you should consume foods high in fibre like fruits, vegetables, whole grains and should avoid foods high in saturated fat as they can increase your LDL (bad cholesterol), avoid refined foods like maida and its products, processed foods, avoid too much of caffeine, alcohol and smoking. Drink at least 8-9 glasses of water per day to keep yourself hydrated and start with some mild exercise like walk at least for 3 kms either in morning or in evening and avoid taking stress. Hope this helps you! Â
