Hello doctor I am 23/m thalassemia major patient and have diabetes and I am taking thyronorm 150 mcg and I have done thyroid test for routine, t3, free t4 and TSH so I want to ask you that what is the difference between free t4 and t4. Are t4 and free t4 similar or I have to done both separately. Thank you.

See Mr. lybrate-user at your level its important to understand that TSH is the real marker for your control. Free T4 and T4 is for doctors to estimate the total thyroid present in your body. T4 is in bound form and only .1% is free t4 which we try to see. Any ways if you are taking Thyronorm 15omcg you should closely monitor your TSH with your endocrinologist.
