I am 28 years old and have hypothyroidism and auto immunity disorders. I was thinking to see an immunologist as auto immune is the main cause of my high antibodies and other issues. I have developed skin auto immune disorder too along with weak mental health. Is it better to see immunologist and then endocrinologist or other.

Hello, Thanks for the query. Hypothyroidism can be due to problem in the synthesis of Thyroxine in thyroid gland - which could be due either deficiency of Iodine or some other metabolic problem. Another major cause is the hashimoto's Thyroiditis (HT) which an autoimmune condition causing hypothyroidism. In this there are increased number of antibodies against the enzyme Thyroid Peroxidase, which plays a major role in Thyroxine synthesis. WHether one has HT or simple hypothyroidism the treatment is same. To give adequate dose of Levothyroxine and control hypothyroidism, ENdocrinologist handles these conditions effectively, like I do here. Thanks.
