I was on Lamitor 100 since 18 months. I was better and I started Lamitor 50 instead of 100. Now as I am absolutely normal and takes Lamitor 25instead of 50 since 20 days. I don't find any problem. I would like to get advice. Should I continue with Lamitor 25? In this period within 9 months I have lost my parents with whom I spent more than 12 months for mom's illness and I took her care till her death as my siblings are out of India. I was normal in this situation. I was suffering depression problem since 5 years. But I am fine now. Please advise me. I am 59 years old.

Dear Asha, Good that you took care of your ailing mom normally and responsibly. It is because you were not depressed during that period. Lamitor is a mood stabiliser to prevent your recurrent depressive episodes. 100 mg has done its work, i suppose. Now why do you want to reduce the dose? For side effect or you can not afford the cost? If so, be prepared to get another episode of depression and make arrangements to bring you into treatment before you become suicidal or deluded. Inform someone close to you about your early warning signs. Next episode will not come as soon as you reduce or stop Lamitor. It will come at its own time which you can predict with your mood chart of 5 years.
