Hi, I am a 21 year old from India. I smoke once in a while. It?s been a week since I haven?t though. Can I donate platelets?

Yes. Donor eligibility criteria are the same for both platelet and whole blood donors. You can donate platelets 7 days after donating whole blood. If you donate platelets first, you can donate whole blood 7 days later.

Dear Harsha, You can donate platelets definitely if you don't have any blood transmitted diseases like HIV, hepatitis, etc. Please give up smoking once in a while also. Nicotine makes you to increase its need and later makes you dependent on it. It is always easier to stop at this stage.
