The HBA1C value of my father is 6.7 and fasting blood sugar 100. His age is 81 years with 5 feet and 5 inches height and 52 kg weight and physically active. He is not taking any medication for diabetes. But, he is taking twintel 10/40 for Blood Pressure and Urimax F for prostrate. My question is that is the value of HBA1C 6.7 normal at his age? Kindly advise.

No, it?s on higher side. He needs to adapt to diabetic diet n lifestyle changes. If this can control his sugar, fine. Otherwise he has to start medicine. A diabetes diet simply means eating the healthiest foods in moderate amounts and sticking to regular mealtimes. A diabetes diet is a healthy-eating plan that's naturally rich in nutrients and low in fat and calories. Key elements are fruits, vegetables and whole grains. U can take (moderate amount) Grapes. Apples. Berries. Citrus fruits. Pineapple. Papaya. U should avoid Sugar-Sweetened Beverages. Sugary beverages are the worst drink choice for someone with diabetes. Trans Fats Sugar, cake, pastries Mithai/sweets Chocolate Fruits like mango, litchi etc. White Bread, Pasta Fruit-Flavored Yogurt. Sweetened Breakfast Cereals. Flavored Coffee Drinks. Honey 1. Get his fasting and pp blood sugar test done intermittently and if you re able to keep blood sugar fasting around 100 & pp around 150, there is no need of medicines.
