Hi, I am a 33 year old man and I had a condition of Hypothyroidism for the past 6 years. I was on the medication of Eltroxin 125 mcg which decreased my TSH from 9 to 0.14. I want an opinion regarding the ongoing therapy that whether should I continue using the 125 mcg tablet or should I stop using medication any further. Also, I wanted to know what impact does a fluctuating thyroid hormone will be on my sex life.

Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. When adequate dosage of Levothyroxine is taken, TSH is brought down. Ideally it should be maintained around 3 to 4 mU/L, (considered as normal level), at that level all the symptoms are in check. TSH 0.14 mU/L is a bit low, but still within the specified range. You may check TSH after another 3 months, if then it goes still lower, then dosage may be reduced. Treatment has to be continued for lifetime. If you stop it, then TSH will go up and all the symptoms of hypothyroidism will reappear. Therefore, treatment has to be continued. Thanks.
