What is the difference between an antidepressant drug and antipsychotic drug. I have been prescribed Ilosure 2 mg and Valparin for my depression by my psychiatrist. I have very bad side effects from these and I feel like everything is getting worse. This is when I google my medicines. It says Ilosure is an antipsychotic drug. I also found a term antidepressant. I am at least able to do my regular work after pushing myself so hard now even if I am worn out completely. My thoughts blur and come back all at the same time. I know my medications will not help me too. Im on the edge. I need clarifications.

Illosure is a primary antipsychotic only, and it is not a good one at that too, better get a 2nd opinion for your problems. Antipsychotics act predominantly on dopamine receptors with also some action on serotonin receptors, while antidepressants act predominantly serotonin receptors and some action on others. Choosing Ilosure as drug to treat depression as diagnosis doesn't make rationale, if you are not comfortable kindly get a 2nd opinion from someone else nearby.

Dear lybrate-user, Antidepressant and antipsychotic are different group of drugs. They are classified like that for the convenience. Illosure is an antipsychotic. Valparin is a mood stabiliser. All these drugs have other action also though they are grouped in one. You will improve with drugs - that is why the doctor prescribed them to you. The dosage needs to be adjusted after seeing side effects in you (not in internet search. Being in edge and pushing yourself to routine work in the long run is not good for you. Take treatment. All the best.
