Hi my mother in law is a patient of depression she is 75 also she is having audio & visual hallucination doctor prescribed Arizol 5 mg evening & morning & THP 2 mg in morning she is on this medication since 11 days but we can?t see any improvement also she is having restless nights she can not sleep she talks all the night she seems unconscious whole night she is having lorazepam 1 mg in night. Please suggest.

Dear Lybrate user, At the age of 75 years, doctors need to give low dose initially. Later it will be increased if Nirmala tolerates the drug. Arizol takes time to start its action. After 3 days i.e.2 weeks after starting, please consult the doctor again. She/he may increase the dose or stop THP or investigate to find out other causes for her hallucinations and restlessness. If she seems to be unconscious, stop lorazepam and start investigation for her condition. It may not be just depression. It may be some organic brain syndrome.
