Hi. Treatment will depend on the extent of dental decay but if it is not much then you will surely need atleast root canal treatment followed by capping of the tooth.

The problem you are suffering from is dental cavity. If the cavity is not very deep it can easily be filled with composite restoration. If after examination the tooth turns out to be non vital then root canal treatment will fix the problem forever. You must go to the dentist as soon as possible so that treatment can be started.

The reason of pain can be that the cavity is deep and has touched the nerve portions of the tooth, so get an X-ray done and see a dentist asap to get the cavity filled perhaps a root canal filling may be required to save the tooth.
