Dear Sir/Madam, My grandpa takes insulin in after noon before 30 minutes lunch and at night after dinner. Could you please tell us when he can take a diagnostic test at Lab of fasting and post lunch. Because as previously he used to take insulin at morning before 30 minutes of break fast and at night before 30 minutes of dinner. And used to give a diabetic test in morning after 30 minutes of insulin i.e fasting and post lunch after 2 hours of break fast, then next day to doctor visit. Thank you.

Hello, Thanks for the query. Madam, blood glucose is tested in the following manner: Fasting- early morning before taking anything in the morning that is tea or any other food. Usually 10 hours after dinner. Taking Insulin injection has nothing to with that. PP (after food)- this is done 2 hours after taking food. For this patient has to take whatever medicine he or she has been asked to take for controlling blood glucose. Third is any time of the day known as Random blood glucose. In insulin taking patient some times pre lunch and pre-dinner glucose also may be tested. Another important aspect is that Insulin Injection should always be taken 30 minutes before taking food. Usually No Doctor advises it after food. Because it needs more than half hour for beginning of its action. I hope you understand. Thanks.
