I am a 45 years old female taking regularly thyronorm 100 mcg for that last year. Following are the data trends of my TSH. 31/01/2018 - 10.63 TSH so taking 125 mcg thyronorm. Recently, Dec 2018 rechecked the TSH value was found to be 0.65 and it was checked without taking the thyronorm tab. My question is, whether we can stop taking thyronorm as the value of TSH within the normal range. KSV.

Hello, Thanks for the query. Madam Hypothyroidism is a hormone (thyroxine) deficiency disease. Since this hormone is required for a number of vital day to day metabolic functions plus normal functioning of brain, it has to be supplemented every day because your thyroid is not producing less or nil thyroxine. With 125 mcg of Levothyroxine, TSH has come down to 0.65 mU/L, which is with in normal range. But this does not mean that you can stop taking Thyroxine. This hormone needs to be taken for lifetime. There is no cure for Hypothyroidism. If TSH goes further low, then dosage may have to be reduced by 12.5 mcg per day. Ideally TSH should be around 3 to 4 mU/L. Thanks.
