Earlier I use to take 50 mcg thyronorm tablets daily and my TSH range was 2.58 ml (reference range 0.4 - 4.2), when I tested having thyronorm regularly before the test. This is 4 months back. I stopped eating outside food completely and I'm following good diet and I lost 7-8 kgs weight having protein food and regular exercises. So I just thought of checking TSH without having thyronorm tablets and check how it is going naturally. And today when I tested after without taking thyronorm from two days, the TSH is 3.86 (ref range 0.4-4.2). So without medication my TSH is within the range but little near to the highest side. Could someone please suggest should I still continue 50 mcg or can I use 25 mcg.

lybrate-user ji, Thanks for the query. I am sure you are aware that Hypothyroidism is a hormone deficiency disease, where your thyroid is not producing adequate quantities of thyroxine or not at all. So in this situation, only remedy is to give supplement of that hormone on regular basis. Because this hormone is needed for a variety of important metabolic functions of the body and functioning of brain. The treatment is for Life Time. TSH levels do not change on stopping the hormone for 2 or even 10 days. It takes over 4 weeks to get TSH level respond to stoppage or increase in the dose of Levothyroxine. Minor variation that is noticed is irrelevant. I hope you understand what I have said. Thanks.
