My blood pressure is 140/90 and sometimes 150 systolic and my gp has prescribed metoprolol 50 mg xl. Since 5 days i'm taking this drug and there is no impact on bp. I do not have any history of her or hypo thyroid, neither have any cardiac history and kidney disease. My bsf remains 95 and I am 40 years old what should I do now?

First you needs evaluation why bp is high at your age - you need routine usg abdomen, kidney fnct test and urine routine. Apart from whatever drug you are taking first go for liefstyle modification, low salt, and daily brisk walk for atleast 25 minutes. After that I think you have to be started on other class of drugs like telmesartan or olmesartan if bp still remains uncontrolled.

Will need to add 1 more medicine for bp. Like amplodipine or telmisartan as per your treating physician.
