I am a male of 55 years age. L am hypertensive & my bp remains 160/90 mm or more. I take telvas am in morning & amlong5 in the evening. What is the reason & what are other symptoms related to hypertension.

Hypertension can be asymptomatic completely that means it will be detected only when you visit a doctor. In many patients it manifests as only headache, while in others uncontrolled hypertension over long term produces complications like stroke, nephropathy i.e kidney involvement, or heart failure (brarhlessness and fatigue on exertion). That is the reason even if you do not feel any symptoms one must visit a doctor once in a while to get the blood pressure checked especially after the age of 40 years. It will allow early detection and prevention of those complications. If your bp is persistently high, you need to consult a cardiologist to find out whether there are any secondary causes of hypertension which are correctable, namely hypothyroidism, renal artery stenosis, and others. Once we rule out all correctable causes, your medications need to be revised for optimum control. Also you will need lifestyle changes like smoking and alcohol cessation, loss of excess weight and daily exercises to keep you healthy and your blood pressure under control.
