Hello sir, am very much worried about my friend. His age is 25 and he is preparing for IAS. Earlier he was doing job in a well reputed MNC but last year he resigned because he want only to focus on his study, but from the last 6 7 months he was very much depressed and full of stress, tension and negativity. Because of this he feel weakness and not able to concentrate in his study, not able to sleep. Can you please help me. Is he in depression? or its normal.

He is stressed but not yet depressed. However if he neglects himself he may become depressed. The IAS can be quite a taxing exam and he may be losing confidence and is therefore becoming very stressed. He needs to meet with a counselor without delay. If it is fear then that person will certainly be able to help him handle it appropriately and come out of his distress. He would anyway need to follow a regular exercise regimen, eat healthily, and sleep well. These three are essential for a normal person and more so for him facing a tough exam. If he is too unprepared for the exams and that is the reason for the stress, advise him to defer the exam to next year and get more organized in his preparation. He may be determined to do it this year but if the circumstances are tough, it is advisable to do it the following year. In fact he could have a whole year for preparation. If he is still determined, he needs counseling very badly.
