Hello, I have been having pain in the left side of the belly for two years. But I have pain only when I lay in a bed and I have to turn to the left or right sides, also when I cough or sneeze. Is it possible for me to have a colon cancer for two years and not die during this period? I am 42 years. I worry if I go to a doctor it will be the fourth stage cancer.

Diverticulitis is one of the most common causes. In many cases, persistent pain specific to the lower left side of the abdomen is caused by diverticulitis. Diverticula are small pouches created from pressure on weak spots in the colon. When a pouch tears, swelling and infection can cause diverticulitis.
