For tartar removal you have to go for a scaling and after that you have to keep your oral hygiene good from your side. Like regular brushing and flossing. And you can visit to your dentist in every six months for regular cleaning of teeth. It would not harm your teeth.

You may require cleaning again ..but you can get it done in two to three years perhaps .. if required ..

Tartar or calculus(in medical terms) tends to accumulate on your teeth because of poor oral hygiene. Sometimes, it can also even get deposited in small amounts where cleaning is less accessible like your inner gum region of molars or back teeth. Get a dental check up done every three months. Undergoing a scaling procedure once in every six months will help in preventing gum infections.

Scaling is necessary around once a year, just like you would brush everyday. Deposition of plaque and tartar can be delayed by meticulous oral hygiene maintenance but cannot be avoided altogether. Also some people are more prone to tartar deposition as compared to others. They may even have to repeat scaling every six months. Your dentist should be able to suggest how often you need scaling. But avoiding scaling just because its a repetitive procedure is not a good idea. Tartar deposits gradually cause loosening of teeth, gum infection, recession and root exposure, bad breath etc. So scaling is the only way to avoid all that. Hope this was helpful.

Tartar or calculus is nothing but the calcified deposit which needs to be cleaned professionally by a dentist. However for future visits I would say even a dentist gets his/her teeth cleaned once in a year because formation of mild to severe calculus will occur in every individual. So maintain your oral hygiene but do get scaling or cleaning done by a dentist once in a year. Thanks.
