My mom's mri report shows following observation - diffuse posterior disc bulge is seen at l2-l3 to l5-s1 level with mild bilateral neural foramina compromise. - compression of the existing right l3 nerve root is seen. - mild lumbar canal stenosis is seen at l3-l4 & l4-l5 levels compounded by ligamentum flavum hypertrophy. - descending herniation of cerebellar tonsil noted in the posterior subarachnoid space upto c2 level. - thin focal syrinx is seen in the spinal cord on c2 level - it represents arnold chiary I malformation - small arachnoid cyst in left paramedullary region - annular tear with broad based disc herniation at l2-l3, l3-l4, l4-l5, l5-s1 levels causing existing nerve root compromise on both sides with anterior thecal sac indentation. - moderate knee join effusion.

Syrinx if symptomatic needs surgical intervention. However, you have not mentioned what complaints your mom has. Mri is helpful to diagnose something but if you do not tell what your moms complaints are, mri report is useless.
