The cause of tooth hurt is not always a cavity but in your case the tooth has become sensitive to hot and cold .u must consult your nearby dentist for that.

Pain at times can be just the sensitivity which usually occur when there are lots of deposits between your tooth and gums so I would recommend primary line of treatment is to get a round of cleaning done at the same time the dentist can evaluate any other underlying cause if present thanks.
