Long qt syndrome (lqts) is a congenital disorder characterized by a prolongation of the qt interval on electrocardiograms (ecgs) and a propensity to ventricular tachyarrhythmias, which may lead to syncope, cardiac arrest, or sudden death. Bradycardia is a common feature in patients with lqts. Torsades de pointes is a specific form of polymorphic ventricular tachycardia in patients with a long qt interval. It is characterized by rapid, irregular qrs complexes, which appear to be twisting around the ecg baseline. This arrhythmia may cease spontaneously or degenerate into ventricular fibrillation.
