I am a 25-year-old female who is diagnosed with thyroid with tsh levels 5.1 and normal t3 and t4. I was immediately put on medication thyronorm 25 mcg. Three days ago I stopped the medication and took thyroid test today. And my test revealed the tsh has reached 9. Please let me know the cause. Is it possible to cure thyroid permanently without lifelong medication.

Hello, thanks for the query. Madam please let me know why was the test done first time? What were your symptoms? Plus have done anti-tpo antibodies test? If not please get it done. Usually tsh 5 mu/l is considered as almost normal, no treatment is advised at that level of tsh. Even 9 mu/l is also considered subclinical level. So unless the symptoms are known I will not be able to comment and give any suggestions. It is better if you come in a private conversation (paid consultation) with all the details, then I will be able to give specific suggestions and even prescribe the medication. In this communication we are supposed to give only general guidelines, no drugs can be prescribed. So please come back with all the details mentioned above. Thanks.

Hypothyroid patients usually have to take thyroid supplement indefinitely and at tsh 9 you need to increase the dose. Better to consult your physician again because he knows your clinical status.
