Hello sir I have hypothyroidism (recently about 5 months) tsh was 9.7 and I am taking levothyroxine 25 mcg after 3 months taking medication my tsh is 6 now. Do I need to increase medicine or not also my vitamin d3 came recently 15. For that Dr. recommended shelcal 500 for 1 months. Kindly help also I want to know if ayurvedic treatment controls hypothyroidism and what is better for me I am 22 male thank you kindly help.

Mr. Lybrate-User, Thanks for the query. When one is on the adequate dosage of levothyroxine tsh is maintained around 3 to 4 mu/l. At that level, all the symptoms associated with hypothyroidism are in check. Since your tsh is still high, there appears to be a need for increasing the dose by 12.5 mcg (25 + 12.5 = 37.5 mcg). Then check tsh after 6 weeks to see if the desired level is achieved. For d3 deficiency please take vitamin d3 capsules or sachets (once a week for 8 weeks). There is no ayurvedic treatment for hypothyroidism as it is a hormone deficiency disorder. Thanks.
