Hello doctor my t3 and t4 tests are normal. My tsh is 6.2.i consulted online pathologist on. 1 mg.com and was advised to take 1 tablet of thyronorm 50 mcg daily before breakfast which I have been taking since 6 may, 2019. Please advise for how long should I keep taking this medicine? Thank you.

Thanks for the query. When one is on adequate dosage of levothyroxine, tsh is maintained around 3 to 4 mu/l, at which level most of the symptoms are in check. Since you have started thyronorm 50 mcg, then please check tsh after 6 weeks, to see if above mentioned level is achieved. Please let me know if yur symptoms are in check. Thanks.

First thing I want to know that if you are doing tsh for first time or you have been on medication for hypothyroidism. In case if this is for the first time, then you don't need any treatment if you have no other physical symptoms or issues. Secondly if you are on medication for hypothyroidism previously then the dosage need to be changed or increased as tsh is not within normal range. Thirdly if you are a patient of hypothyroidism then probably you will need to continue the treatment for rest of your life with periodic check up.
