Had two episodes of psychosis. Last one happened in feb 2016. Initially I was on risperidone then from dec 2016 I am on asprito 5 mg. I want to quit this medicine slowly and want to move to ayurvedic medicine for this problem as this medicine might not be safe if I plan pregnancy. Can I trust ayurvedic medicine for psychosis?

You are being treated for schizophrenia and this needs allopathic medicines. Ayurvedic is not known to work with psychotics so far. If you want to reduce and even come off of your medication, then follow some of these instructions along with the medication. There is no doubt that this disease is debilitating but you must persevere not only with the medication but also with counseling. The counseling gives you an avenue to work with your emotional issues and you will develop skills in coping with the everyday challenges that life throws at you. I hope your visits to the psychiatrist were regular and the medication has been frequently reviewed during these years. You need to be occupied, and fit into a routine of interesting activities every day. Yoga and meditation is also necessary to train your brain to be disciplined. Exercise always plays a stabilizing role and is the most holistic medicine besides. Since the mind is regularly perturbed by unreal fears, a reality check through counseling will help you discern fact from fiction. Your socializing and maintaining steady relations is the hallmark of a good recovery program. If I am to assume that there was only one relapse during this period, then that is not a good sign. This means that your condition has not remained stable all of these years! now be consistent and go to the next level along with therapy and you can look forward to a more functional and productive lifestyle.
