I am type 2 diabetic, and my tsh is now 7.82, as on february 19 my tsh was 8.76. My doctor suggested me eltroxin 25 for 2 month. After taking medicine for 2 month I stopped. After a month of stopping medicine I tested this week and found the mentioned level of tsh. Please suggest what should I do? And I do physical exercise daily in the morning. For my blood sugar I take glycomet 250 mg once after lunch.

Hello, thanks for the query. Like diabetes, hypothyroidism is also a hormone (thyroxine) deficiency disorder. Since this hormone is required for the majority of day to day metabolic function, it needs to be supplemented every day. Hence the treatment is for a lifetime. I do not understand why levothyroxine was discontinued. Doing regular exercise is essential in helping better glucose control and maintaining near normal weight. Which happens to be part of the treatment for diabetes along with drugs. There is no mention of blood glucose and hba1c% levels. Thanks.

You should not have stopped the medicine and should have tested for tsh while you are taking it. Now you can restart it and get TSH test done after 6 weeks and inform or consult a physician/endocrinologist.

Thanks for your Query. Before answering your question I would like to know what was the TSH at first time when you started medication. Secondly I would like to know about your complaints or symptoms. Usually we don't start any medication if the TSH is below 10 and if you have no symptoms. So do let me know more details.
