Earlier sugar levels were normal, bur for the last six months or little more, sugar level (fasting) is around 140 and pp around 190. My age is 66 and weight 87 kgs. Please suggest. Change of medicine, if required. Thanks.

Hi sir, Certainly, change in the medicine is required. Check for hba1c level of blood. Tell me 6-7 more readings of blood sugar. Try to reduce your body weight. Exercise regularly. Please consult me through lybrate.

Hello, Thanks for the query. I have seen the details given. Fasting glucose should ideally be around 100 mg and PP 150 to 170 mg and HbA1c% < 7. However, 190 mg PP glucose is not bad. It can be better controlled by diet conntrol and weight reduction. Because looking at your weight and height it is quite clear that with a BMI of 32.92 kgs/Sq meter (Normal < 23kgs/Sq meter), you are already in grade one obesity and probably going towards grade 2. There is an excess of over 25 plus kgs. This is an invitation for having high blood glucose. So even if there is a reduction of 5 to 8% of your current weight, there will be much better glucose control. So please give a closer look at your diet pattern and extent of daily exercise. There is no need to change any drugs. Thanks.
