Is it safe to take venlafaxine with paroxetine. My doctor prescribed me both the medicines ,but I am worried about serotonin syndrome. Please explain to me any risk associated with them or should I continue both.

Dear Lybrate-user, It is safe to take venlafaxine and paroxetine. You doctor knows better. If you have started with one tablet at low dose, later gradually increased dose and added another drug in low dose, no need to worry about serotonin syndrome. You have not mentioned the dose of each drug and duration of taking them.

Serotonin syndrome is a possibility only at high dose with medications that act on the serotonin receptor level making increasing amounts of serotonin levels available for chemical action.
