I am taking glyciphage pg-2 (only 1 tablet )for type-ii diabetes and I am 68 years old. My hba1c is 6.7 when I took it last. Though during the day my blood sugar reading is generally ok, blood sugar fasting in the morning is still a problem l. Inspite of starting to take metformin in the night after 1 hour of my dinner, my fasting results are 128,145, even 150. This was suggested by a Lybrate doctor. Please advise how to get fasting around 100.

Hello, Thanks for the query. I have seen the information given. HbA1c% is quite good, showing very good glucose control. Fasting glucose should ideally be < 100 mg or closer to 100 mg. It is invariably dependent on your night time food intake and on overall physical activity. So reduce fasting, you will have to give a closer look at your dietary intake particularly at dinner time. If you cut down that fasting glucose will come down. Another important aspect is in relation to your height and weight, with a BMI of 29.39 kgs/Sq meter(normal < 23kgs/Sq meter), you are almost in grade 1 obesity. Your ideal body weight should be around 60 kgs, Which means there is an excess of over 20 kgs. This does affect glucose control. If you reduce weight, your blood glucose may become almost normal. Thanks.
