My husband was leading a very good life one year back. He was jovial and good hearted person but he use to drink heavily during night everyday. He got into bad habit of eating pan masala too. And moment came when he released he has fatty liver and mouth ulcers. So he decided to quit both. With the help of general doctor he started to quit alcohol with tablet crotonol and 3-4 months he came out sober with no withdrawal symptoms. One fine day he decided to quit pan masala also and he stopped eating too. The very next day of leaving pan masala he couldn't sleep the whole night and his eyes were wide open as he is in some shock. I took him to psychiatrist and came to know he is slipped into depression and medicines started for him. 1 year he was taking medication and therapies and after one year he was out of depression and had high anxiety levels and now he was prescribed with ativan twice a day and daxid once. But now when anxiety level is high he resorts to drinking. But he is not drinking everyday. Moreover is is become highly aggressive and abusive and suspicious. He does not spare any one at home and office and life is become hell with him. He is unhappy about everything and always negative .he does not laugh anymore and keeps on cribbing about everything in life. And now if he drinks he picks up a fight with someone or other and even he starts to hit everyone at home. All the time he feels all the people are worthless except him. He is becoming a nuisance to everyone at home and nearby. I don't know what is wrong with him. What treatment should be given and where. I am residing at koramangala and can not take him too far for treatment as I have no one here to help. I will be thankful if any expert can advice what is wrong with him and what treatment should be given to him and where. I do not know what is wrong with him.

Addiction to substances over long period of time can disrupt neurochemicals of brain, hence possibly he had depression and now through your history he appears to be having maybe agitated depression with evolving psychosis, kindly take him to bangalore (nimhans/cadabams hospital) the nearest place to the location you mentioned, and get him evaluated for his current condition. He may require medicines again.
