I have been taking paroxetine 75 mg and olanzapine 5 mg daily for about 2 years as I am suffering from dysphoria and anxiety. Lately, I again started feeling low hence an additional antidepressant was needed and I tried umpteen number of antidepressants but none of those worked. Thus my doctor increased my paroxetine dose to 100 mg day ,which turned out to be helpful. But my mood is still only 75% stabilized. My question: 1.shall I try some mood stabilizers such as lithium at this age? Will there be some side effects as well (cons) of using them as I heard. In a nutshell, are mood stabilizers safe and worth trying at this age? Thanks a lot doctors. I do not want to go for therapies.

Lithium is a very good mood stabilise but needs blood and other tests and can be wonderful for mood if not contraindicated. I am actually surprised why it has not been tried. You can get a second opinion and revise prescription with lithium, but should be done only by a psychiatrist. Good luck.
