Dear doctor, my father (53 years) is diabetic for around 30+years and recently suggested for ct coronary angiogram due to abnormal ecg and tmt positive. Results were mild atherosclerotic (lad mid segment 40% narrowing). He is now prescribed with atorvastatin 20 mg, clopidogrel 75 mg, carvedilol 10 mg, remmag 400 mg and ramcor 1.25 mg. He was already taking insulin with cresar 40 mg, glador, istamet and carvedilol. Now, dr's told him to take this new medicines for lifetime. Want to know, is this the only way? Can't he get rid of this cardiac medicines with better food, exercise and lifestyle changes? If he can stop these statins and clopilet, how long would it take. What is the right way to do that. Awaiting your valuable response.

Hello, Thanks for the query. I have seen the details given and understand your concern. Since the ECG, TMT have shown abnormality and angiogram also has shown partial blocks, the doctor has advised Atorvastatin and Clopidogrel. As for giving Magnesium Oxide, there must be some specific reason or deficiency noticed, that is the reason for these drugs. Tablet Ramipril is usually recommended in a diabetic person as it helps improve kidney functions, reduce microalbuminuria. As regards your question about improving the diet, exercise and change in lifestyle. Well if had already done it earlier, this situation may not have arrived. There is no mention of following : Blood Glucose readings(Fasting & PP as well as HbA1c%),. No mention of weight, height, present dietary pattern and extent of exercise, lipid profile as well as BP readings. It is necessary to know all these before any advice can be given. Plus there is a need for refraining from smoking and alcohol totally (if he is indulging in it). So please come back with all the necessary details before I can give an answer to you. Thanks.
